My Love Letter to Coffee

Dear Coffee,

You and I have known each other for a long time so I won’t be coy.

I love you.

I remember when we first met, all those years ago. My first impression of you was a bitter one. I was confused as to why, despite everyone raving how hot  you were, you didn’t hold the same appeal to me.   Perhaps it was the coffee shop in which we met. Perhaps it was the fact that you burned me the first time you touched my lips. Whatever the reason, it wasn’t love at first sight (even though you made my heart race after only a few minutes).

Now, of course, I know better.  Now, I confess , I can’t live without you. You are the first thing I think of in the morning.  I love the warm way you feel in my hand.  Your scent is so distinct and comforting.

You’re so completely dependable. You’ve been  there for me through the toughest of times. Through college papers, law school finals and the bar exam. Through meetups and break ups. You pick me up in the wee hours of the night when no one else can. You give me energy when I feel low.  You give me strength.

Your versatility is inspiring. Almost everyone who meets you either loves you or at, the very least, respects you. You can be as cold as ice or boiling over and people still want you around. How do you do it all, my sweet coffee? How do you skip the hearts of so many?

And so, for all this … and for so much more:

I love you.
